Fatigue Management Policy Statement

Acon Construction Group Ltd recognises that fatigue is a significant health and safety concern and is committed to implementing safe systems of work to effectively control fatigue-related risks for all employees.

The purpose of this policy is to establish clear requirements for managing fatigue and to reduce the likelihood of fatigue-related incidents and injuries within the workplace.

Certain operations undertaken by Acon Construction Group Ltd may occur outside standard working hours and can involve shift work, extended hours, and on-call duties. If not managed appropriately, these working arrangements may contribute to fatigue.

Fatigue is a state of physical or mental exhaustion that reduces a person’s ability to perform tasks safely and effectively. It is most commonly linked to inadequate restorative sleep and may result from both work-related and non-work-related factors. Non-work factors include family responsibilities, social activities, health conditions, sleep disruption, and personal commitments. Work-related factors include shift work (particularly night shifts), extended working hours, high workload, and environmental conditions such as excessive noise or temperature.

While individuals experience fatigue differently, its effects can include reduced concentration, impaired coordination, diminished judgement, and slower reaction times—factors that can significantly increase the risk of incidents and injuries.

Acon Construction Group Ltd is committed to ensuring that fatigue does not compromise health, safety, or wellbeing. We aim to achieve this by:

  • Planning working hours to include adequate rest breaks and sufficient time off between shifts.

  • Ensuring employees have access to leave entitlements, including annual leave and sickness absence.

  • Providing information, instruction, and training on the risks and effects of fatigue.

  • Promoting awareness and early recognition of fatigue-related symptoms.

Employees of Acon Construction Group Ltd also have responsibilities, including:

  • Using time away from work to rest and recover so they are fit for their next shift.

  • Avoiding behaviours and practices that may contribute to fatigue and place themselves or others at risk.

  • Recognising signs of fatigue and informing their supervisor if they feel unable to carry out their duties safely.

This policy will be communicated to all employees and reviewed at least annually—or sooner if required—to ensure its continued relevance and effectiveness.
